Starr Homes is known for energy efficiency that cuts utility cost, improves air quality, and creates a more consistent interior environment. Starr Homes uses superior craftsmanship to boost the energy efficient power of the home. Each Starr home is crafted meticulously, ensuring that even the smallest details can support a greener home.

Small Steps Make a Big Difference

When building a home, Starr Homes actively seeks out ways to improve the energy efficiency of the home. Major construction and insulation changes are made to improve the R-value of the walls, which can make the home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, all while saving you money on your utility bills. However, there are also more minor ways to boost the interior environment of a home that some builders overlook.

These few extra steps and upgrades that can add up to significant changes in the energy efficiency of your home:

Filling In The Holes

When electric wiring is placed within a home, the wires run all through the house and its walls. On exterior walls, electrical wires can span between many walls and even different levels of the home. Within the upgraded 2x6 construction on the exterior walls of a Starr home, each hole in the 2x6 with electrical wiring running through it is caulked and sealed. While these holes are very small, filling each one can make a difference in air infiltration. It is important to protect the envelope, also known as the exterior walls, of the home. The more holes are sealed, the better!

High Quality House Wrap

House wrap is used on the exterior of a new home in order to act as an extra air and moisture barrier. Starr Homes uses energy efficient and superior Typar house wrap. Typar house wrap is high quality, and provides an exceptional barrier for moisture and air. In addition to the resistance to air and water, Typar house wrap also effectively resists tears.

Pipe Flashing

When plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems are installed, protrusions will occur on the outside walls. As it is crucial to protect the envelope of the home, most builders will caulk around those penetrations to prevent any water damage. However, this is not a long-lasting solution. Starr Homes uses QuickFlash wall penetration flashings, which are sheets that go around the piping. They are one of the best ways to seal penetrations in the envelope, and will last much longer than traditional caulking methods!

These small steps and upgrades can really make a difference in the home. While they may seem minor or tedious, all these changes can add up to offer amazing energy-efficient results!
